An agreement to regulate productive activity in the waters of the island of Cubagua through a Dynamic Fisheries Management Plan was reached by fishermen from the state of Nueva Esparta and authorities from the national fishing sector.

The initiative formalizes the organization of marine workers in the island area through coordinated control and environmental protection mechanisms, with a comprehensive record that includes the census of vessels, the verification of permits, the inspection of authorized fishing gears and the planning of fishing periods and frequencies.

The Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Juan Carlos Loyo, led the meeting with fishermen in the Rancho de Juanita sector, in Punta de Piedras, Tubores municipality, where the workers presented their proposals for coordinating the regularization process.

In this regard, fishing extraction work in Cubagua will formally resume under the new controlled and sustainable scheme starting this Monday, as agreed during the day, which continued the consensus reached previously in the Araya Peninsula, Sucre state, with a view to establishing a model of shared exploitation between the fishermen of both entities.
