On behalf of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, President Nicolás Maduro rejected public threats against the physical integrity of his Colombian counterpart, Gustavo Petro, and his family.

In the broadcast of his show Con Maduro+, the Head of State said: “we ask God to protect the President (Gustavo Petro), his wife (Verónica Alcocer) and his family. Hopefully there will be justice in time to protect the President's life, severely threatened by fascism, the extreme right and paramilitarism.”

On Saturday, December 9, Gustavo Petro reported a new death threat. This Sunday, December 10, the Public Ministry explained that it identified the man who carried out the threat, the individual identified himself as a member of the armed gang Los Espartanos, and the interrogation of the alleged suspect is expected to take place on Wednesday, December 13.
