On May 28, 1814, the First Battle of Carabobo took place, on the same field as June 24, 1821, where the Republican army defeated the Spanish army.

The victory was extremely important, since the republican army was under the command of our Liberator Simon Bolivar, who defeated the Spanish army commanded by General Miguel de La Torre y Pando.

To prepare his soldiers, the Liberator told them: “You have in front of you the same leaders and the same Spaniards whose victories you have won in more than a hundred fights, this must be the last”.

The attack began at one o'clock in the afternoon and culminated five hours later. The maneuver ordered by Bolívar using cavalry to dismantle enemy flanks was successful, the opposing forces fled to El Pao, others to Barquisimeto and to San Carlos Cojedes state.

This First Battle of Carabobo was joined by Rafael Urdaneta, Manuel Cedeño, Santiago Marino, José Félix Ribas, José Francisco Bermúdez, Juan Jacinto Lara, Ambrosio Plaza, Leandro Palacios, Mariano Montilla, Francisco Carvajal, Pedro Briceño Méndez and others.
