On November 25, 2016, the world commemorated the planting of the great leader of the Cuban Revolution, Commander Fidel Castro, who in his lifetime fought for the freedom and sovereignty of a people.

Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz was born on August 13, 1926 in Birán, the former Cuban province of the East. His father, Ángel Castro Argiz, the son of poor farmers in Galicia, was a landowner and sugar cane colonist. His mother, Lina Ruz González, came from a peasant family in the province of Pinar del Rio.

He was an outstanding student and during his time at the university he came into contact with Marxist ideas, a sympathizer of the progressive Cuban People's Party (Orthodox), in which he actively participated starting in 1948.

During his time with this Party, he was in the political campaigns, in particular, of its main leader, Eduardo R. Chibás. Within his political organization, he worked to cultivate the most radical and combative positions among young militants. After the death of Chibás, he redoubled his efforts to unmask the corruption of the Carlos Prío government.

When Fulgencio Batista's coup d'etat occurred on March 10, 1952, he was one of the first to denounce the reactionary and illegitimate nature of the de facto regime and to call for its overthrow.

In addition, after the failed coup, Batista was taken prisoner and in a reserved and guarded environment, he assumed his self-defense before the court that tried him, and I make the allegation known as History Will Absolve Me, in which he outlined the program of the future Revolution in Cuba.

This is how he fought to achieve the liberation of the oppressed Cuban people, and thereafter, in the name of revolutionary power, he proclaimed on April 16, 1961, the socialist character of the Cuban Revolution.

Castro's life cannot be reduced to a few lines. His permanent and indissoluble bond with the people, his brilliant oratory, his constant teaching and his unlimited dedication to the cause of the Revolution have left an indelible mark on the Cuban people and have served as an inspiration to millions of men and women from all continents.
