February 4, 1992: A “for now” that became the defeat of puntofixism (+anniversary)

On February 4, 1992, a group of patriotic soldiers gathered in the Bolivarian Revolutionary Movement 200 (MBR-200), wearing a tricolor armband and abandoning everything for the cause of the Fatherland, ventured into a quixotic operation that consisted of the overthrow of the genocidal government of Carlos Andrés Pérez (CAP), who was supported in an unrestricted way by imperialism.

The rebellion broke out in the early morning of that date, when important military barracks were seized, in the states of Zulia, Carabobo, Aragua and in the country's capital; activities that were successfully carried out, except in Caracas, where, as a result of the betrayal of one of the members of the movement, the authorities activated protocols to prevent the capture of Pérez.

The effort of those patriots did not achieve the objective of removing CAP from power, but a “for now” that filled an entire country with hope, at that time, pronounced by Commander Hugo Chávez, would become the “death blow against the Fixed Point Pact”, and restored dignity to a people that was mired in poverty, a product of the neoliberal policies applied by the administration of the then President Pérez and the governments Adecos and Copeyanos for 40 years.

“That was a movement of patriotic boys, some of them still call us coup plotters, there they are. We are not coup plotters, we are revolutionaries, a revolutionary movement, a patriotic movement,” said Chávez on February 4, 2005, from Cuartel de La Montaña.

33 years after this historic event, Venezuela continues to lift its anti-imperialist spirit and the legacy of Chávez.
