Father of the Colombian vice-president suffered an armed attack

This Sunday, June 16, the father of the Colombian vice-president, Francia Márque z, suffered an armed attack in the rural area of Jamundí, in Valle del Cauca, Colombia.

Local media report that the Police reported that Sigifredo Márquez Trujillo was traveling by car in the company of a minor when someone shot four times at the car.

Both people “are unharmed in the Robles-Jamundí Police substation,” the body said.

They report that the father of the vice president was evacuated by soldiers by helicopter to the city of Cali.

Regarding the act of violence, the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, on his account on the social network X, sent “an embrace of solidarity to Vice President @FranciaMarquezM for the attack against her father”.

“I ask the authorities to initiate appropriate investigations,” he urged.

In addition, through a statement, the Presidency of the Republic rejected the attack against the father of Vice President Francia Márquez.

For her part, the Colombian vice-president, Francia Márquez, in her account on the social network X, stated that “my heart aches, that just on this day, my father was attacked”.

“I report that my father, together with my 6-year-old nephew and the two protection men, suffered an attack on the Suárez-Cali highway, near Timba, fortunately they were unharmed from the attack and are feeling well,” he said.

He also stated that “I express my concern for security in Cauca, Valle del Cauca, in the municipality of Suárez and the district of La Toma, as well as for the safety of my community and my family.”

Márquez noted that “I ask @ FiscaliaCol to open the relevant investigations to clarify these facts. To @ mindefensa take the necessary measures to strengthen the presence of military and police forces, which contribute to ensuring security in Cauca and Valle del Cauca”.
