On February 1, 1932, the Salvadoran revolutionary leader Agustín Farabundo Martí was shot by the dictatorship of Maximiliano Martínez, a man who dedicated his life to fighting against injustices, the international anti-imperialist battle and for socialism.
He was a staunch opponent of the oligarchic regime in Latin America at the beginning of the 20th century, when the coffee business was advancing to the detriment of the rights of peasants and indigenous communities.
In 1925, Farabundo Martí participated in the founding of the Central American Communist Party in Guatemala and three years later he joined the Anti-Imperialist League as representative of Augusto César Sandino, with whom he fought in the war of liberation of Nicaragua against the North American invasion.
Its anti-imperialist and socialist legacy was taken over by the Salvadoran left that fought against successive dictatorships. It is also in force in social movements and organizations that advocate for the unity of peoples and oppose imperialist interference in Latin America.
