The director general of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Qu Dongyu, inaugurated this Monday the World Food Forum 2026 in Rome under the slogan “Innovate today to nourish tomorrow”, with the objective of coordinating global efforts and integrating new technologies with ancient knowledge in the face of growing climate emergencies.

Warning about the impact of extreme weather events that threaten to push more than 132 million people into poverty by 2030, the international representative noted that “today's actions for new technologies and traditional knowledge will determine if this generation can feed a changing world.”

He also emphasized the need to deepen investments in rural infrastructure and promote digital solutions, stressing that “we cannot accelerate the progress of our food system if we do not invest in conditions that allow for the renewal of roots and invest in human capital, especially in young people and women.”

Regarding the inclusion of local communities and the global work agenda, Qu Dongyu concluded that “on October 15, women's day, we will celebrate it with farmers from indigenous families to take stock of how far this generation can take us in the future of the food system.”
