On February 1, 1817, in the town of Cúa, Miranda state, one of the most prominent heroes of Venezuelan independence, the “General of the Sovereign People”, as he is known, Ezequiel Zamora, was born, who fought to claim the rights of peasants and the humblest social classes.

Earth and Free Men! and Respect for the Peasant! These were the prominent slogans that evidenced Zamora's struggle to favor peasants, in addition to a series of battles against conservatives to seek equality among the population and achieve a fair distribution of land.

On February 23, 1859, in the context of the Federal War, he became Chief of Western Operations and his triumphs in encounters such as El Palito (Carabobo state), San Felip e (Yaracuy) and, especially, the battle of Santa Inés in Barinas state, would serve to demonstrate his exceptional qualities as a troop leader.

There, the famous Creole also demonstrated his ingenuity and strength, in confronting the conservative government of Pedro Estanislao Ramos, to promote the demand of land workers who lived in slavery.

The maneuver gave the federal troops and the peasantry eager for justice the triumph, and from there they raised the flag of democracy and freedom. However, before Santa Inés, the liberating forces, led by Zamora, had established the Federal State of Barinas, which resulted in the establishment of a popular government.

He died in the vicinity of the current Casa Zamora, on Avenida Bolívar de San Carlos, the capital of Cojedeña, facing the San Juan Bautista church, on January 10, 1860.
