On May 23, 1954, the city of Caracas saw the birth of a great musician and composer in Venezuela. Evio Di Marzo, the son of Italian parents, became passionate about Caribbean music.

At 17, Di Marzo fell in love with his girlfriend with songs, because since he was 10 years old he played drums and since he was 13 he accompanied his older brother, Yordano, in a band called Ford Rojo.

Around 1979 Di Marzo formed Adrenalina Caribe in Sarría, a popular area in the center of Caracas, which marked a milestone in the city, because while other Venezuelan musicians were filling the industry with the pop genre, he dedicated himself to Caribbean music.

“It was a 'rock salsa' with the intention of singing the motivations of the worker, of the people,” the composer explained on an opportunity for the RT media outlet. In the same way, he indicated that he often had to introduce songs with little social content so that record label producers would not prevent him from recording his albums.

Although his passion was music, Di Marzo was a multifaceted man, so he was also a graduate anthropologist, university teacher, expert in hydroponics, sailor, cook, restaurant manager, music producer and father of 10 children.

With the arrival of Hugo Chávez and the Revolution, Di Marzo always maintained his left-wing ideological position; for this reason, he supported the revolutionary process and shared with the Commander, from the table of his pizzeria, to the platforms during electoral campaigns.

However, after composing four albums in nine years (Pico y Pala, 1982; Adrenalina Caribe, 1985; Evio Di Marzo-Adrenalina Caribe, 1987; and Bio Bio, 1990), and being at the height of his musical career, Di Marzo decided to leave the entertainment world, after coming across some writings from Islam, which changed his life.

This is how this great musician dedicated himself to being a taxi driver and composing music for the complacency of Allah, since he found in Islam “all the answers” to what was happening in his life.

In spite of all this, Di Marzo did not stop being that great musician, who was recognized by every other passenger who rode in his taxi for his greatest hits.

On May 28, 2018, he died at 64 years of age, he left a great legacy and that, as his song “I stay in Venezuela” said, he undoubtedly stayed because in our country music never dies, and neither do men like him.
