On June 25, 1842, Eloy Alfaro, an Ecuadorian general who led the Liberal Revolution, was born in Montecristi, who raised the flags of social justice, equality and progress for the people of his country, who were subjugated by the elites who, after betraying the Bolivarian ideal, established governments marked by the exploitation and misery of the majority.

From a very young age, he participated in rebel exploits, one of them being an attempt to disembark where a ship was sunk and managed to save his life clinging to a barrel.

After the triumph of his revolutionary feat, Alfaro undertook a series of actions aimed at promoting the modernization of the Ecuadorian State, under a policy that stood out for the values of freedom, sovereignty, equality and social justice, which registered a great advance, which were affected as a result of a coup d'etat, driven by traitors to his cause who succeeded in his removal from power and later his assassination in the streets of Quito.

At present, the Ecuadorian people raise the flags of this “Old Fighter” -as it was named in homage to the perseverance of this martyr leader-, to continue the fight against the betrayal of leaders who, immersed in the rule of old and new empires, lead the courageous Ecuadorian people towards obscurantism and neocolonialism.
