The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) could face its definitive closure, following recent statements by Elon Musk, current head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in the Donald Trump administration.
According to detailed information from Telesur, the magnate stated that USAID is mired in corruption and cannot be reformed, which justifies its immediate closure.
During a debate broadcast on X Spaces, Musk stated that he has discussed the USAID situation with Donald Trump on several occasions and the president has confirmed his decision to dismantle the agency.
“It became clear that it's not an apple with a worm in it. What we have is simply a ball of worms. Basically, you have to get rid of everything. There is no repair,” he said.
Musk's reaction intensified after a conflict between his team and senior USAID security officials. According to reports from the AP agency, two security officers were suspended after refusing to hand over classified material to DOGE inspectors, arguing that they did not have the necessary security authorizations.
