The Colombian National Liberation Army (ELN), announced on December 22, a unilateral ceasefire in the country on the occasion of Christmas and New Year, which will take effect starting tomorrow and until January 03.
“In this regard, the National Directorate of the ELN advises all its structures not to carry out offensive military operations against the Armed Forces of the State,” the group said in a brief statement.
The guerrillas said in their message that “at no time does it carry out military operations that affect the population.”
The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, shared the ELN bulletin through social networks along with the message: “The end of the war is the national purpose for 2025".
Negotiations between the Government of Colombia and the guerrillas are currently suspended.
The ELN has accused the Government of violating the agreements reached so far and of seeking a fragmented peace, based on territorial agreements, instead of negotiating with the entire insurgent group.
