The impact of the El Niño climate phenomenon keeps the provinces of the Argentine coast on high alert after the extraordinary flooding of the Paraná and Uruguay rivers, which has forced the deployment of emergency operations for the immediate evacuation and assistance of dozens of families affected by the floods.

According to information highlighted in Telesur, towns such as Paso de los Libres in the province of Corrientes recorded water levels of 9.28 meters in the Uruguay riverbed, exceeding the critical evacuation level and forcing the transfer of citizens to Army refuge centers.

In the city of Concordia, Entre Ríos, the river level reached 11.46 meters, causing flooding in popular sectors and the relocation of vulnerable families, while the hydroelectric dams of Itaipu, Yacyretá and Salto Grande keep their landfills open to cushion peak flows from Brazil and northeastern Argentina.

The overflow of river basins highlights the increasing severity of climate events in the Southern Cone region, demanding a comprehensive state response to protect the life and living conditions of coastal communities.
