On October 29, 1988, Venezuela was once again stained by the people's blood, when 14 fishermen from the town of El Amparo, Apure state, were massacred by members of the Armed Forces attached to the José Antonio Páez Specific Command (CEJAP).

This massacre, perpetrated by orders of the ruling Adeco-Copeyan elite, was carried out under the pretext of being part of the anti-guerrilla actions, a false positive that was revealed as a result of the testimony of Wolmer Gregorio Pinilla and José Augusto Arias, two fishermen who managed to escape the ambush.

“As a survivor and aggrieved person, I hope that the Venezuelan State complies with the laws properly to punish those responsible and compensate the victims,” Pinilla said in an interview conducted by Telesur.

36 years after this massacre, the Venezuelan people honor the memory of these fishermen who were victims of a model of repression and death that reflects the culture that prevails on the right.
