The Christmas season began at the Eje del Buen Vivir, located in the
Plaza de Los Museos, in Caracas, with a tribute to the Venezuelan percussionist
Luis Quintero, who received recognition for his more than four decades of musical career.
The award was presented by the Deputy Minister for the Promotion of
Cultural Economy, Rosario Soto; the president of the Art Network, Aracelis García, and the
director of the cabinet of the Ministry of Popular Power for Culture, Johan de Souza.
Soto highlighted the career of Quintero, who has shared stages
with figures such as Oscar D'León and Celia Cruz, and highlighted his contribution to the “growth
and strengthening of our traditions”.
For his part, García described it
as a bastion of the music and sound of the neighborhoods of Caracas,
especially of the San Agustín parish, where he hails from.
The tribute included the presentation of Guataca Gaitera, a group
made up of young and older musicians from Sarría and Petare, who
performed emblematic songs of the Zulian bagpipe, such as Reina Morena, Venezuela galopante and La vieja gaita del Saladillo.
With songs and dances to the rhythm of these performances, the audience
joined the celebration that kicked off the special Christmas program of the
Axis of Good Living, with activities that will combine gastronomy and art
for collective enjoyment.
