Navegantes del Magallanes announced the hiring of Venezuelan Eduardo Pérez as the new helmsman of the Turkish ship in the upcoming 2024-2025 season of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League.
Pérez, with a great experience as an instructor since 2006, will lead a Creole ball team for the third time in his career after leading the Águilas del Zulia in the 2008-09, 2009-10 and 2014-15 seasons. He then also took charge of the Tigres de Aragua in the 2015-16 and 2016-17 contests, leading them to the championship in the first of them.
“I am very happy and proud of this appointment. We all know what Magallanes means in Venezuela and the Caribbean, and for me it is a pride to have the opportunity to lead the most traditional and fanatical team in the country,” said the new shipping boss. “Happy to take on this, it won't be easy but I like challenges and I think we have a tremendous team.”
The native of Ciudad Ojeda, Zulia state, explained that he had several offers from other teams in the LVBP and in other leagues, but none met his expectations as did this one from the filibuster team. In his words, he couldn't say no to an organization like Magallanes.
“The goal is to win. I'm not going there just to try to qualify, I want us to be champions and thus be able to represent the country in the Caribbean series,” added the leader. “This is a challenge for me and I know that we can go a long way with all the talent we have. You have to work hard, do things right and let the boys play. We have the players we need to succeed and we're going to build a great team from now on.”
