During the program Political Enclave, broadcast by TELESUR, the president of the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (CONAIE), Leonidas Iza, asserted that the government of Daniel Noboa aims to transfer the sovereignty of the Ecuadorian nation to the United States.

“That's the central objective. Not only is military sovereignty, the sovereignty of our country, being ceded, but in addition to that, they are also submitting their interests to control our resources in the region,” said Iza, while denouncing that Noboa is taking advantage of a painful moment in the country to give in to North American interests.

In this regard, he added that the actions of the Ecuadorian president are unconstitutional: “We have seen in these last governments, anything is invented, the Constitution is broken, the regulations are broken, and as a result, President Daniel Noboa is doing the same thing.”

He stressed that the presence of U.S. officials in Ecuador has no intention of solving the problems of the South American country and assured that the people will not stand idly by in the face of this new North American interference.

According to what was published on the TELESUR website, in September 2023 then-President Guillermo Lasso signed two agreements with the United States in which “it allows the presence of U.S. military vessels in Ecuadorian waters and the second sets the conditions for the U.S. military presence in Ecuadorian territory.”
