In a statement, the Joint Command of the Armed Forces of Ecuador rejected the request of Vice President Verónica Abad and stated that they will comply with the provisions of the head of state, Daniel Noboa, in the midst of the institutional crisis that the country is going through due to the confrontation between the highest authorities.

“It is up to us to abide by the provisions of the acting constitutional president, Daniel Noboa,” says the text of the military body, where they mention the executive decrees related to the Vice Presidency.

The response of the Armed Forces comes after Vice President Abad's request for support in a video in which she announced that this Sunday she will assume the head of state in Ecuador while Noboa is running his electoral campaign with a view to being re-elected in the elections scheduled for next February.

“For the full exercise of such high responsibility and in order to give continuity and stability to executive management, I require the support and commitment of each and every one of the functions of the State, the Armed Forces, the media and especially of our commander, the Ecuadorian people, deserving of a respectful, serious, sovereign and clear administration in the objectives we must fulfill,” said Abad.
