Last Wednesday, the National Service for Comprehensive Care for Adults Deprived of Liberty and Adolescent Offenders (SNAI) reported that those deprived of their liberty in a prison in Guayaquil, Ecuador, staged a riot to demand the departure of the armed forces, a revolt that was controlled hours later.

Local media released videos showing that inmates in the Guayas prison burned mattresses in protest against ill-treatment by the military, who are in control of prisons.

The SNAI explained in a statement that the incidents took place at the Guayas Male Social Rehabilitation Center number 4, before which law enforcement activated all security protocols designed to control the situation.
