Ecuador: New massacre recorded in Guayaquil (more details)

Last Saturday, a new massacre occurred in the Ecuadorian city of Guayaquil, when armed individuals killed nine people and injured ten, the city's police provided details of the crime this Sunday to the press.

The Ecuadorian security force reported that the events took place on Saturday night on public roads, when alleged members of a criminal group who arrived in a car shot at people playing volleyball.

They also pointed out that none of the deceased had a criminal record. Among those injured, only one had a history of theft in 2017. They were all adults.

They also added that there was a disturbance of public order in the hospital near the Guasmo Sur Hospital to which the victims were transferred, but they linked it to the high number of injured, family members and police who arrived at the health center in a short time.

On the other hand, the uniformed personnel explained that before the massacre, there was a 65 percent reduction in violent deaths in the district during the first quarter of 2024. After the fact, that index fell to 41 percent.
