Venezuela will register an increase of 23% in its terms of trade by 2026, placing the country in the second place with the highest growth in the region, according to projections published by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the Latest News portal reported.

The projected progress for the country responds to the increase in international prices of hydrocarbons and other basic products. This behavior will strengthen the nation's external purchasing capacity and will increase revenues derived from foreign trade.

ECLAC indicates that the overall average for Latin America and the Caribbean will increase by 6%. In the regional balance, Peru leads the table with 26%, while several Central American and Caribbean economies will experience marginal variations or falls, such as Honduras (-4%), Haiti (-1%) and Barbados (-1%).

The prospects also point to a generalized expansion of exports: 28 of the 33 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean would record increases in the value of their external sales of goods, with double-digit increases in 16 of them.

The multilateral organization points out that South America is the main beneficiary of the current price cycle in international markets. A global growth of 17% is estimated in the value of South American exports, driven by an increase of 15% in prices and 2% in export volumes.

This dynamic is due to the subregion's specialization in the production and export of natural resources and raw materials, areas that have registered sustained increases in their global prices.
