The number of deaths from the Ebola outbreak exceeded 4,800 people, according to the National Institute of Public Health, an agency under the country's Ministry of Health. In addition, the health authorities specified that the total number of registered infected people amounts to 9,907 cases in the affected areas.
The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is home to one of the most serious sources of the current Ebola outbreak in Africa, with thousands of infections in various communities, as reported by Telesur. This epidemiological impact keeps national and international health agencies on alert to stop the spread of the virus.
According to the institution's official statement, the fatality rate of this health event currently stands at 48.6%, which represents that about half of the infected people lose their lives due to the disease.
Faced with this situation, medical and health teams continue to be deployed in the impacted regions carrying out monitoring, containment and care for the population. The authorities reiterate the importance of reinforcing biosafety measures and constant monitoring to control the contingency in the national territory.
