On May 19, general elections will be held in the Dominican Republic to elect the president for the period 2024-2028 and the 32 members of the Senate, the 190 members of the Chamber of Deputies and 20 seats for the Central American Parliament.

According to information highlighted by Telesur, there are nine political parties with candidates running for the most important public office in the country, which have been campaigning in a context marked by economic difficulties, unemployment, inequity and the unstable political and migratory situation of the neighboring nation, Haiti.

After 12 p.m., electoral propaganda was completely restricted by radio, television and other news media.

Some political organizations such as the ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) closed their campaign last Sunday, although others decided to leave it until Wednesday, the last authorized day, such as the opposition Dominican Liberation Party (PLD).
