In an article published this Saturday, April 5, the American newspaper The New York Times ratified an intelligence report from the North American country, dated February 26, in which it was concluded that the extinct criminal group Tren de Aragua does not operate under the control of the Venezuelan government nor does it commit crimes on U.S. territory under its orders.

This dismantles the campaign promoted by the extreme opposition right, repeatedly denounced by President Nicolás Maduro, with which they intended to criminalize Venezuelan migrants in the United States and blame the Bolivarian Government.

Under this pretext, US President Donald Trump invoked the Foreign Enemies Act of 1798, arguing an alleged invasion by this criminal group, already disbanded in Venezuela, for the deportation of Venezuelans without legal guarantees to El Salvador.

In a previous report in the aforementioned media, it was detailed that the intelligence evaluation was carried out by multiple agencies, including the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the National Security Agency (NSA), who agreed that the gang acts independently. Only the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) partially disagreed, suggesting possible links to the government of Nicolás Maduro, based on information that the other agencies did not consider credible.

“The Trump administration has suggested that the president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, sent members of the Aragua Train and other Venezuelan gangs to the United States to destabilize the country. But in February, US intelligence agencies would have internally released conclusions according to which the Aragua Train is not controlled by the Maduro government and the members of the gang who are in the United States have not been sent by him,” reiterates The New York Times in its most recent publication.
