The homicide rate in Venezuela currently stands at 2.2 victims per 100,000 inhabitants, which represents a significant reduction compared to previous years, said the Deputy Minister of Prevention, Public Security and Peace Quadrants, Endes Palencia.

“In 2016, we had 56 victims per 100,000 inhabitants. Last year we closed with three victims per 100,000 inhabitants and today we have a record of 2.2, just 57 days before the end of the year,” said Palencia, while noting that, in general terms, crimes have fallen by almost 16%.

In addition, as reported by the Venezuelan News Agency (AVN), Palencia highlighted that the operations carried out during the holidays have had positive results in reducing traffic accidents. “If we talk about the end of Holy Week, we had about an 8% decrease in road accidents,” he said.

The Deputy Minister called for reflection, addressed in particular to motorized people, to wear protective helmets and respect the rules of the traffic code. He also highlighted the preventive work in the terminals. “We have more than 100 terrestrial terminals, of which 37 are prioritized, ensuring that public transport vehicles are duly controlled by the National Institute of Land Transportation,” he said.

With regard to the fight against cybercrime, Palencia highlighted the adoption of new technologies by security forces. “We have CICPC officials who have carried out various actions to combat this crime and have caught up with artificial intelligence, making progress on different challenges,” he said.

The official stressed the importance of the Ven 9-1-1 system as a “technological communicational brain” to provide a timely response to citizens. “We have evaluated and materialized the content of vertex number 11 of the Great Peace Quadrants Mission, which establishes everything related to scientific-technological innovation,” he said. Finally, he stressed that citizen security agencies continue to receive training to manage these technological tools with a humanistic approach, giving priority to personal integrity.
