After statements by the president-elect of the United States (USA), Donald Trump, about his interest in controlling Greenland, the Government of Denmark announced an investment of 1.5 billion dollars to strengthen security in this territory.

The Danish Defense Minister, Troels Lund Pulsen, clarified that the decision to apply a new defense package to the large island, which has been part of the Kingdom of Denmark since 1953, does not respond to the comments of the next US president.

“For many years we haven't invested enough in the Arctic, now we're planning a stronger presence,” he told national media, stating his intention to “work with the United States” to strengthen security in Greenland.

The package includes two Thetis-class patrol boats, two long-range drones, two teams of sled dogs and more military personnel in Greenland, according to the country's media.
