The more than 1,000 Unilateral Coercive Measures imposed on our country have been to try to blackmail us and force us to change our course of independence and self-determination, said the Executive Vice President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez.

“We have been punished for our self-determination. We classify this system of sanctions as a form of new colonialism to try to seize our resources and come up with new models of concreteness, development and happiness for peoples who do not want to bow to the hegemonic system,” said Rodríguez.

In this regard, he emphasized that sanctions, together with war, are the axis of United States foreign policy. “An example is that there are 30 sanctioned countries in the world; 28% of the world's population is under sanctions; and these amount to 72% of the planet's territory,” he explained during his participation in the Caribbean Regional Seminar of the United Nations Committee on Special Policy and Decolonization.

On the other hand, he stressed that the statements of the United States and other imperial powers respond to their interests in the natural resources that our country has and they intend to be freely given to them, without any respect for economic, commercial and cooperation relations.
