The
Executive Vice President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, recalled this Monday that, in May
1966, the national Government recognized the Independence of Guyana from the United
Kingdom, in a document presented to the General Assembly and the
Security Council of the United Nations (UN), where it
also ratified its position regarding the territorial rights of Venezuela over Guiana
That sequiba.
we recognized Guyana's independence from the United Kingdom and we made
our firm position very clear that Guiana Essequiba belongs to Venezuela and
we will never give up our historical rights,” Rodríguez said through his account on the social network X.
The Vice President
shared an extract from that important document in which she highlights that “Venezuela
recognizes as the territory of the new State the one located to the east of the
right bank of the Essequibo River, and reiterates to the new country, and to the
international community, that it expressly reserves its rights of
territorial sovereignty over the entire area that is located on the left bank of the aforementioned river”.
It adds that, “
as a result, the territory of Guiana Esequiba, over which Venezuela expressly
reserves its sovereign rights, borders the new State
of Guyana to the East, through the line of the Essequibo River, which was taken from its
source to its mouth into the Atlantic Ocean”.
