December 26, 1893: The leader of the Chinese Revolution, Mao Tse Tung, is born

Mao Tse Tung was born in the Xiangtang region, Hunan province, on December 26, 1893, and served in the army during the Xinhai Revolution in 1911, which overthrew the Qing dynasty, leading to the proclamation of the new Republic of China.

At the head of the Communist Party, Mao came to power in mainland China in 1949, when the People's Republic was proclaimed, after the victory won in the Civil War against the forces of the Republic of China.

Mao based his government on the approaches of Marxism-Leninism, adapting them to the characteristics of Chinese society, its uses and customs. His vision of communism gives the peasant class a predominant role as the engine of the revolution, which departs from Marxist-Leninist postulates, which consider that the peasantry has little potential for mobilization, and maintain that the central role in the class struggle must necessarily fall on urban workers.

During the Mao administration, ideological reaffirmation campaigns were constant, and they shocked the country socially and politically. This is the case of the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution, a period in which their power acquired greater extension.

In China, Mao is esteemed as a great leader, a source of the party's own legitimacy. His thinking has had a great influence on other communist movements in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
