The Brazilian Civil Defense reported that the death toll from a meteorological catastrophe in the state of Rio Grande do Sul increased to 169.

During the balance sheet, almost a month after the natural tragedy, the institution noted that more than 50 are missing, while across the state more than 2.3 million inhabitants were affected by the floods of last April 29.

Meteorological authorities predicted that the rains will continue in the main areas of the state, so school activities were suspended for 48 hours, Xinhua reported.

It should be noted that Rio Grande do Sul is an important agricultural state in Brazil and the first rice producer in Latin America. Its economic activity has currently fallen due to natural disasters affecting the area.
