The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, returned this Friday, November 08, to the western province of Artemisa to evaluate the effects caused by Hurricane Rafael, which hit the Caribbean nation, reported the Prensa Latina website.

Accompanied by the Secretary of Organization of the Communist Party of Cuba, Roberto Morales, the head of state arrived in the municipality of Güira de Melena, which has significant effects on electricity lines and agriculture.

Morales, in his account on the social network X, that brigades of linemen are heading to the territory and resources have been allocated from the National Defense Council to advance the recovery efforts.

He added that, together with the president, he also visited the municipality of Alquizar, where the people work intensively without neglecting the recovery of their community.

The day before, while touring the areas affected by the meteorological event, Díaz-Canel insisted on the importance of keeping the population informed about what is being done to restore electricity service, guarantee the supply of water and the supply of food.

“You have to harvest everything as soon as possible. The hurricane cannot serve as a pretext for default, perhaps for the delivery date, not for the quantities committed,” he stressed.

Hurricane Rafael hit western Cuba on November 5 accompanied by winds exceeding 100 kilometers per hour, and in its wake caused serious damage in the provinces of Artemisa, Mayabeque and Havana, with damage to agriculture, housing, hospital infrastructure and the electrical system.
