In a joint effort of the Cuban embassy in Venezuela and the National Cinematheque, a Cuban film series will be held from October 16 to 20, as part of the Culture Day on the Caribbean island.

According to information from Venezolana de Televisión, the Cinemateca will host the presentation of classic and contemporary films of the Antillean nation's cinematography, reflecting the ties of brotherhood and cooperation in the cultural field between the two countries.

The feature film “In a Certain Way” (1974), by director Sara Gómez, will open the exhibition tomorrow, diplomatic sources reported. Other films on display are “AM-PM” (2023), directed by Alejandro Gil and screenplay by Amílcar Salatti; and “Oscuros Amores (2022), directed by Gerardo Chijona.

Also, the documentary “Maisinicú, Half a Century Later”, produced last year under the direction of Mitchell Lobaina, will be screened, and which pays homage to the classic “The Man from Maisinicú” (1973), by Manuel Pérez.

For the closing of the film series, “El Mayor” will be presented, directed by Rigoberto López in 2018, and inspired by the life of the Major General of the Mambi Army in the Camagüey region (center), Ignacio Agramonte.

This exhibition will pay tribute to the 65th anniversary of the founding of the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC) and to the Cuban writer Alejo Carpentier, in the context of the 120th anniversary of his birth.
