The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINREX) of Cuba called for consultation with the United States chargé d'affaires on the island, Benjamin Ziff, in protest against the interventionist actions promoted by the North American nation.

The Cuban Government issued an official statement, published on the MINREX website, reminding the American diplomat of the “minimum standards of decency and honesty that are expected of a diplomatic mission in any country and that the United States embassy in Cuba is unable to observe, while stressing that this diplomatic office and its staff are obliged to behave in accordance with the rules of the Vienna Convention on Relations Diplomats”.

The meeting, according to a review on the Prensa Latina website, was led by the Deputy Minister of Cuba, Carlos Fernández de Cossío, who addressed the economic situation in Cuba, as a result of the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the United States on the island for more than 60 years.

For this reason, Cuba repudiated “the ostensible commitment of the United States government to limit and hinder every effort of the Cuban State to find solutions and provide answers to the country's economic and social needs.”

The statement highlights that these measures are aimed at reinforcing “a ruthless economic war to provoke and exploit the natural irritation of the population”.

In this regard, he questioned the “concerns” declared by the White House about the situation in Cuba, while reinforcing the blockade and keeping Cuba on the arbitrary list of sponsors of terrorism, despite the fact that the North American nation undertook to delete the country from this document.

In addition, he stated that if the United States were concerned about Cuba “it would put an end to the persecution of the fuel supplies required to import the country,” as well as “it would stop pursuing every financial transaction of Cuba in the world.”
