Last Monday, security agencies of the Republic of Cuba revealed during a special television program details and evidence about an alleged plan that would have been organized from the United States (USA) to carry out terrorist actions within the island.

The investigation, based on the facts, dates back to December 2023, when the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) reported the arrest of Ardenys García Álvarez, a Cuban citizen who had been residing in the United States since 2014, who had illegally arrived in the national territory in November by sea across the coast of the province of Matanzas, aboard a water bike and carrying firearms and ammunition.

According to Colonel Víctor Álvarez Valle, second head of the specialized body of the Criminal Investigation Directorate of MININT, the purpose of García, 40, was to “recruit people and provoke an armed uprising supported and financed from the United States.”

Not only did he enter Cuba with the intention of doing so, but he “specified plans” talking to other people, the high command added, noting that he tried to add members of government and security agencies that had “certain physical preparation”, and he located places where weapons could be stored and military training is being carried out.

García, accused as the main executor of these actions, was linked to a series of individuals and entities that, according to the Cuban Government, have been subject to criminal investigations for sponsoring terrorism.

According to Ardenys himself, before arriving in Cuba, he was invited to practice at a shooting range in the United States, with long weapons and telescopic sights, by men who claimed to belong to a terrorist organization based in South Florida.
