Cuba registers an earthquake of 6.0 degrees this Sunday

He noted that so far no material or human damage has been reported.

The National Seismological Service of Cuba reported that an earthquake of 6.0 degrees on the Richter scale was recorded at 10:50 a.m. this Sunday at 19.75 degrees north latitude and 76.91 degrees west longitude.

In addition, according to information from Venezolana de Televisión, the service indicated that the earthquake was recorded at a depth of 10 kilometers and the epicenter is located 48 km southeast of the municipality of Pilón, in the province of Granma. So far, perceptibility has been reported in Santiago de Cuba, Granma, Guantánamo, Holguín and Ciego de Ávila.

He noted that so far no material or human damage has been reported. The aftershocks can still be seen in the city of Santiago de Cuba, the nine municipalities of the untamed province and in those of Granma, where the epicenter was detected. The phenomenon was felt at least in other countries in the area, such as the Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Jamaica and Haiti. This constitutes the perceptible earthquake, No. 14 of the year 2024.

This strong tremor shook the eastern provinces that have received intense rainy storms in recent days, and in particular Guantánamo, severely affected three weeks ago by the impact of tropical storm Oscar, with eight deaths and considerable damage to housing and agriculture.

In addition, it has as its precedent the 5.1 degrees recorded on October 17 and which was perceived in Santiago de Cuba, Guantánamo and Granma (east), without reporting material damage.
