Cristóbal Rojas: The Painter of Venezuelan History (+seeding)

On November 8, 1890, in the city of Caracas, art was dressed in mourning, with the unfortunate death of one of the most outstanding Venezuelan painters of the 14th century, this is the unforgettable Mirandino Cristóbal Rojas, author of great works such as: Virgen de Chiquinquirá, Notes-Flores, The Death of Girardot in Bárbula, The Tavern, and The Expired Deadline.
Painter of the stature of Arturo Michelena, Martín Tovar y Tovar and Antonio Herrera Toro; the latter with whom he initially worked as an assistant in the decoration of the Cathedral of Caracas, where he was entrusted with the paintings of the columns and arches of the central dome.
Cristóbal Rojas stood out among the painters of the time, for focusing on themes related to misery and death. In general, his great works were characterized by denoting the drama of his personal life.
The life of this important Creole artist was spent among canvases and colors converted into magic. Since December 27, 1958, his remains have been buried in the National Pantheon.
