“Independence or nothing! Commune or nothing!” , were the harsh statements made by Supreme Commander Hugo Chávez on October 20, 2012, during a Council of Ministers where he marked the urgent need to start a Revolution within the Revolution based on efficiency and the transfer of power to the People.

Pointing out the prevailing importance of criticism and self-criticism for rectification, the eternal leader of the Bolivarian Revolution drew the lines to deepen the great transformations that were embodied in the Homeland Program.

During his speech from the Miraflores Palace, he urged the need to multiply management efficiency and to strengthen Popular Power and revolutionary communication.

“Let us remember the five great historic objectives of the Homeland Program that we are now going to begin to implement. These are the steps we have been taking, that's why we talk about the transit, transition, stage. None of this existed in Venezuela and none of this would exist in Venezuela if capitalism were imposed, which would turn us back into the colony that we were. That is why the political revolution predates the economic revolution. It always has to be like this: first political revolution, political liberation and then comes the economic revolution. Political liberation must be maintained, and hence the political battle that is permanent, the cultural battle, the social battle,” he said.

After calling for all efforts to be concentrated on ensuring revolutionary efficiency and compliance with the main premise of the Revolution, which is “more power for the People”, he addressed the then vice-president and now president Nicolás Maduro, to place his trust in his capacity, commitment and loyalty so that these guidelines, which continue to guide the management of the Bolivarian Government, are fulfilled until his objective of the Socialist Homeland is achieved.

Nicolás, I entrust this to you as I would entrust my life to you: the communes, the social state of law and justice.”

Today, 12 years after this historic speech, the Chavista People and their revolutionary Government remember these words of Commander Chávez to continue carving out the future of the free, independent and sovereign Homeland under the slogan of all power for the People!
