As part of the Comprehensive Capacity Restitution Plan, the National Electricity Corporation (CORPOELEC) is carrying out a series of strategic engineering works that include the early commissioning of the Portuguese substation, the redirection of transmission lines and the expansion of the Central Plant.

During his participation in the Villa-Política program led by the Deputy Minister of Communication Management, Gustavo Villapol, the president of the National Electric Corporation (CORPOELEC), Juan Fernández Manrique, announced that the commissioning of S/E Portuguesa is due to the need to optimize electrical flow.

Fernández asserted that after the impact of the seismic doublet, an event that caused the loss of 800 megawatts (MW) and severe breakdowns in power equipment, isolators, towers and battery banks,

The head of the Corporation explained that the main operational challenge lies in transporting energy from the Simón Bolívar Hydroelectric Power Plant (Guri) to Maracaibo through the trunk transmission system. To achieve this, the thermal generation of the center — where Planta Centro and Termo Carabobo function as fundamental nodes — acts as an indispensable support to raise transmission limits and stabilize delivery in Zulia, Falcón and the Southwest.

Fernández Manrique revealed that a draft Law on the Electricity Sector is being discussed, designed to open up participation to private companies in processes that require greater speed of development, maintaining the State's constitutional guarantee in the provision of this service.
