On March 30, 2004, the Venezuelan Consortium of Aeronautical Industries and Air Services (CONVIASA) was created, through Decree 2,866 signed by Commander Hugo Chávez, published in the Official Gazette 37,910 on the 31st of that same month and year.

CONVIASA made the first flight with the Dash-7 model aircraft, with the Venezuelan acronym YV-1169, on November 28, 2004, from Caracas to Santiago Mariño International Airport in Porlamar, Nueva Esparta state, and was thus certified as a commercial airline, which then took off for the Island of Grenada.

On December 10, 2004, the airline formally began operating domestic and international flights, according to information published on the airline's website.

In addition, through CONVIASA, the National Government has carried out humanitarian flights to repatriate compatriots who are in different countries, including Chile, Argentina, Panama, Ecuador, Peru, Mexico, Suriname, among others, through the Plan Back to the Fatherland.
