It was Wednesday, March 5, 2013, at exactly 4:25 in the afternoon, when one of the most devastating news for the people broke in Venezuela. Commander Hugo Chávez, the man who marked a turning point in the politics of the country, the region and the world, had died.
“Dear compatriots who see and hear us all over the country and in the world! At 4:25 in the afternoon, on March 5, Commander President Hugo Chávez Frías died,” was the message that resounded that afternoon in the media, announced on national television by the then Vice President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro.
Upon hearing the regrettable news, the Venezuelan people flooded the streets with dismay; many men and women, who were outside the Military Hospital, where Commander Chávez's body remained, shed tears and love only for that giant that marked the country's democratic history.
Eleven years have passed since the departure of one of the most important men of our time, a contemporary symbol of infinite love for the country and a tireless promoter of the Latin American integration that El Liberador Simón Bolívar dreamed of.
That day, even with pain and deep sadness, the people assumed it as the immortalization of the idea and work of the leader of the Bolivarian Revolution, who multiplied in the heart and actions of each of his followers who today continue their patriotic and revolutionary legacy for the construction of the Socialism of the 21st Century that he always preached.
Born in the town of Sabaneta in the state of Barinas, on July 28, 1954, into a humble family of teachers, “the spider man” -as he was nicknamed in his town- from a very young age he was a great fan of baseball, a passion that led him to enroll in the Military Academy, where he learned and assumed infinite love for the Fatherland.
With the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, he undertook the heroic feat of February 4, 1992, where, evidencing his gift of leadership and the courage that would mark them, he launched the historic “for now” that turned a military defeat into a political victory.
This rebellion marked the beginning of what would be his unstoppable path to the Presidency of Venezuela, and with the support of the vast majority of the population, to whom he gave his life and who professed more than love and frenzy, he developed the Bolivarian Revolution, which led the continent towards the struggle for social demands for the benefit of the most needy and against North American imperialism, which since coming to power has not stopped attacking, but he knew how to defeat them in every battle, with intelligence, courage and the courage that characterized him.
12 years after becoming millions, the Venezuelan people defend their legacy on a daily basis, which today is more consolidated than ever, and despite the constant imperial onslaught, they resist, because that's how strong and unbreakable the Undefeated Commander left it.
