The government of Gustavo Petro, in Colombia, asked the US president, Joe Biden, to pardon the former leader of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), Juvenal Ovidio Ricardo Palmera, known as Simón Trinidad, since his release could contribute to truth and reconciliation in the country.

The Colombian embassy reported in a statement on the social network X that on November 12 it sent a diplomatic note requesting pardon “in a humanitarian spirit and with the purpose of contributing to Colombia's peace agenda.”

“This effort seeks to guarantee Mr. Palmera's participation in the processes of the Special Jurisdiction for Peace, prioritizing his contribution with the truth to advance justice and peace in the country,” the Colombian embassy published.
