The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, called for a national day of mobilization this Tuesday, March 18, as popular support for the social reforms proposed in his government.
The president declared a civic day, allowing public employees to attend demonstrations without affecting their work obligations.
The mobilization also serves as a prelude to the popular consultation that the government plans to promote to measure the level of citizen support for its reformist agenda.
From Bogotá, the emblematic Plaza de Bolívar became the protagonist of the protests, with giant screens installed by the government for the attendees.
For its part, Congress took preventive measures, such as the installation of protective fences and restrictions on public access, seeking to ensure the normal conduct of legislative sessions.
