The Conquering Self-Defense Forces of La Sierra Nevada, a Colombian paramilitary group, said they were willing to provide information to President Nicolás Maduro about terrorist plans by the Venezuelan extreme right to destabilize the country ahead of the elections on July 28.

Through a new statement released by the armed group in its X account, they addressed the leaders of Colombia (Gustavo Petro) and Venezuela to organize a direct meeting with the authorities of the Bolivarian Government to provide details of the violent actions requested by opposition extremism, “and thus begin the respective judicial proceedings”.

“We want them to know first-hand the situation that occurred with groups from the neighboring country that sought our influence to alter the democratic system,” they said in the document, read by one of the paramilitary members.

They added that “this is an event of great significance for the two territories, whose border we share without any interference in the designs of the neighboring country.”

They highlighted the moral obligation to deliver information to the Venezuelan president “for the purposes he deems necessary.”

In addition, they reiterated “that this act of peace originates from respect for electoral processes and democracy in Venezuela so that real peace can be built and violence is stopped for the good of the people we protect and that of our neighbors, who also have the right to self-determination.”

This Friday, President Maduro asked the Attorney General of Venezuela, Tarek William Saab, to initiate an investigation after hearing the statements of members of “The Self-Defense Conquerors of the Sierra”.

In this regard, the Public Prosecutor's Office appointed the 83rd National Prosecutor's Office to investigate and sanction the new threats of assassination against the head of state and the destabilization of the country, ahead of the elections of July 28.
