Colombian senator Iván Cepeda denounced on Tuesday the existence of a plan against him aimed at manufacturing false testimonies to link him to judicial proceedings before the authorities of the United States (USA). The alert formulated by the congressman indicates that the strategy seeks to delegitimize his trajectory and affect the leadership of the leaders of the Historical Pact.

“They will not be able to destroy my dignity, my ethical convictions or my political life,” Cepeda said, dismissing the maneuvers against him. The legislator added that the fundamental intention is to “physically, judicially and morally annihilate those who lead the Historical Pact,” through the articulation of campaigns on social networks and rigged testimonies abroad.

The congressman also confirmed that this type of judicial action has been tried on previous occasions to divert attention to investigations of national relevance. However, he emphasized that he will maintain his public and parliamentary work by asserting that “my thing is the power of truth”.

The pronouncement of the political leader has generated various reactions in the institutional setting, where social sectors demand guarantees against the use of judicial installations. For their part, U.S. authorities and local institutions have not issued official statements regarding the complaints filed by the senator.
