CNE begins audits with revision of voting machine software

The National Electoral Council (CNE) began this Monday, April 29 to August 5, the auditing program, which includes the revision of the voting machine software, ahead of the presidential elections on July 28 in Venezuela.

The process will be divided into phases, the first of which ends this Friday, May 3, according to the vice-president of the electoral body, Carlos Quintero.

The purpose of this audit is to verify the hardware and software, as well as the data of the voting machines and the tests in technological solutions, in order to confirm their optimal operating conditions.

Among the peculiarities to be examined, the following stand out: the secrecy of the vote, the biometric authentication process of each voter, the integrity of the information security, the encryption of files with keys shared with organizations for political purposes and the CNE, as well as an exhaustive review of the components of the machines.

In this evaluation, it must be verified that there is no correlation between the identification of the voter and their choice; that this vote is recorded as it was cast, without any modification, that it sums up correctly and that it is transmitted without any distortion.

The audit also involves reviewing the source code of the software of the machines for defrage, which ensures that the computer program with which the hardware works is the right one and it is confirmed that it adds, assigns, totals and transmits the results successfully; in addition, the revision of the hardware of the technological solution, the application of execution tests in a controlled environment and the generation of Hash of the applications.
