On June 20, 2011, Clodosbaldo Russián, a prominent Venezuelan politician, economist and lawyer, who held important public positions, died in Havana, Cuba, as Comptroller General of the Republic and President Pro Tempore of the Republican Moral Council.

“Leave to the Fatherland a legacy of more than half a century of fighting for justice and truth. The serenity and his unwavering spirit were present even in the most difficult situations,” says Commander Hugo Chávez's statement after the news of the physical departure of this patriot.

A native of the state of Sucre, Russián studied Economics and Law at the Central University of Venezuela (UCV), and did special studies in Tax Legislation and Public Administration at the National School of Finance. During the 1960s, he was sentenced to prison for 25 years for his social and revolutionary struggles where he was tortured in the Isla del Burro prison, Carabobo state; but five years later he managed to escape.

As published by the MIPPPCI, he held other important public positions, including: Founder of the National Superintendency of Internal Control and Public Accounting; internal controller of the Foundation for Community Development (Fundacomun); comptroller of the Libertador municipality of the Federal District; comptroller of the Sucre municipality of Miranda state; founding commissioner of the Central University Foundation of Venezuela; director of Administration, Administrative Advisory and Technical Advisory at the Central University of Venezuela and the Deputy Municipal Comptroller of the Federal District, among others.
