The political movement Citizen Revolution called on its militancy to gather starting at noon this Thursday at a sit-in in front of the headquarters of the Attorney General's Office, in Quito, after denouncing the arbitrary arrest of former presidential candidate Luisa González that occurred during the early morning in the town of Canuto, province of Manabí.
According to information highlighted by Telesur, legislator Héctor Rodríguez warned that so far the exact location of the opposition leader is unknown, warning that state authorities are hiding her whereabouts and preventing his legal defense team from having direct access to the detainee, in the midst of a climate of high political uncertainty.
According to the official statement of the progressive group, the operation was described as an explicit act of political persecution supported by an immediate criminal case for alleged money laundering, with which they seek to transform an administrative observation of campaign accounts in the amount of 6,100 dollars into a mechanism to outlaw opposition forces.
Faced with this situation and holding the National Government directly responsible for the physical integrity of the former candidate, the political organization reported the activation of urgent precautionary measures before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), while notifying various international organizations to demand immediate transparency from the Ecuadorian State about the place where González is being held.
