On December 19, 1825, the Liberator Simon Bolivar signed the Decree of Chuquisaca, during his triumphant journey through the lands of Bolivia, where he expressed his vision of the need for protection and care of nature, as well as the recovery and rational use of natural resources.

This decree emerged from Bolívar's observation of the damage that the war had left on nature, so, having ended the conflict, he ordered that every possible effort be made to recover forests, lands and rivers, with a vision ahead of his time. That is why in this decree, he indicated the need to plant one million trees.

199 years after this Decree, it is a reference point for the Bolivarian Government in the promotion of Ecosocialism, the Tree Mission and the environmental education it promotes, as our Commander Hugo Chávez wrote, in the 5th Objective of the Homeland Plan.
