The spokesman for the Ministry of Defense of the Asian Giant, Wu Qian, asserted that military maneuvers by the Chinese People's Liberation Army near Taiwan are appropriate and illegal.

“These exercises seek to combat the recklessness and arrogance [of those who seek Taiwan's independence], as well as to deter the intervention of external forces,” he pointed out while stressing that the Taiwan region belongs to China.

He stressed that the Chinese People's Liberation Army protects state sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“Once there is a challenge to Taiwan's independence, our response measures will continue until the full reunification of our homeland is achieved,” he said.

It should be noted that the maneuvers began on May 23, after the new head of the island's administration, Lai Ching-te, took office, who is expected to continue the previous course towards the island's independence.

According to what was published on the Sputnik website, China assured that Taiwan's independence is incompatible with peace and stability in the straits of this territory.
